April 22, 2015 launched the first cycle of interactive lessons “Snow Leopard – a unique inhabitant of the mountains” for schoolchildren of Bishkek.

During the lessons the students not only learn a lot of new and interesting things about the habits, lifestyles and habitats of the snow leopard in Kyrgyzstan and other countries, but also be able to participate in a variety of games that allow a deeper experience some aspects of the life of this unique feline and understand the need to preserve endangered species.

Interactive lessons take place in the framework of the joint activities of the Secretariat of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystems Protection Program (GSLEP), the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the GEF Small Grants Programme(GEF/SGP), aimed at improving the environmental awareness of the younger generation of Kyrgyzstan.

The second cycle of activities on environmental education of schoolchildren will be timed to October 23 – Day of the snow leopard, which will be celebrated in Kyrgyzstan and other countries of the snow leopard habitat.

The snow leopard is an environmental indicator of the health of high mountain ecosystems, which provide the population of Kyrgyzstan with water, hydropower and other valuable natural resources. Currently, human pressures on these ecosystems is increasing every year, which leads to the fact that the snow leopard is endangered in the entire range of its distribution.
